The Specialty Radiology Team

Our extended radiology team is comprised of professionals with combined subspecialty musculoskeletal, neurologic, and cardiac expertise. Specialty radiologists are available to support all of your imaging needs. Examinations are evaluated from the perspective of the treating physician, and are treated as consults. Reports are provided with unequivocal, concise findings. Referring physicians are encouraged to call our radiology staff with any questions about patient reports, as well as inquiries regarding potential diagnostic studies for their patients.

Larry McNamee

Larry McNamee MD

Dr. Larry McNamee serves as Medical Director for Specialty Teleradiology. Dr. McNamee has extensive experience in oncologic PET interpretations, as well as MRI and CT. Dr. McNamee completed his Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Prior to completing his Radiology program, Dr. McNamee completed formal training in Hematology and Oncology, and was on Associate Staff at The Cleveland Clinic. He has given frequent lectures on the merits of PET scanning. His expert radiology skills, combined with a clinical background in medical oncology, provide an important asset to your practice.

Alex Boutselis

Alex Boutselis MD

Dr. Boutselis is a superb and uniquely qualified radiologist with extensive oncologic PET, CT, and Diagnostic Radiology experience.  He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed graduate studies in Advanced Training in Positron Emission Tomography at Duke University. 

Dr. Boutselis’ previous work experience includes providing interpretation services for PET/CT,  MRI, and CT, at several large Acute Care Hospitals in Lafayette, Indiana.   He also previously served as Co-Founder and General Director for InnerVision Advanced Medical Imaging Center, a full-service imaging center with special emphasis on PET/CT imaging. 

Carina Butler

Abdominal and Interventional Imaging

Dr. Carina Butler is an exceptional radiologist with extensive oncologic PET and Diagnostic Radiology experience. She received her medical degree from The University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed an impressive Abdominal Imaging and Interventional Fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University.

Dr. Butler previously served as Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at Chandler Medical Center, University of Kentucky. She is currently Medical Director of Kentucky Imaging Center, a state of the art center offering PET/CT as well as Lexington's first diagnostic 3T MRI.

Dr. Butler's training and experience result in confident, definitive MRI interpretations. Her PET experience includes interpreting thousands of exams for prominent referring oncology groups. Dr. Butler has been issued the Certificate of Proficiency in Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography from the American College of Radiology. She is a member of RSNA, ACR, ARRS, and the Bluegrass Radiological Society. Dr Butler is an excellent addition to our PET team of professionals.

Robert Ward

Musculoskeletal Imaging

Dr. Ward has trained and worked exclusively with MSK imaging for over 10 years. He completed an MSK Fellowship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and has continued on with an impressive career in radiology. Dr. Ward currently serves as Chief of Division of Musculoskeletal Imaging at Tufts Medical Center. He is also appointed Director of Medical Education and Assistant Professor of Radiology and Orthopedics at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Ward has authored numerous medical books and publications as well as regular presentations at RSNA. We are proud to offer his extensive MSK experience to our clients.

Neuroradiology

Dr. Lakshmi Kode Sammarco is a Board Certified Neuroradiologist and Diagnostic Radiologist. Dr. Sammarco graduated from The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1988, and completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology in 1993 from Case Western Reserve University-MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio in 1993. She also completed a two-year accredited fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology, at the UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California in 1995. She is board certified in Radiology and has her Certificate of Added Qualifications in Neuroradiology. Although she continues to be a Senior Member of the American Society of Neuroradiology, she is well-versed in all aspects of MRI imaging, CT, CTA including being cardiac CTA certified, NM including cardiac, US, PET, general diagnostic radiology, and some interventional radiology.

Recently, Dr. Sammarco has been the Director of Neuroradiology and Director of MRI Services for a group in Dayton, Ohio with responsibility for 9 MRI scanners in 3 hospitals and 5 imaging centers. She has extensive consulting experience in the planning and development of outpatient imaging centers from site-planning and equipment selection to creating and implementing protocols and patient-specific techniques. Dr. Sammarco has also played a crucial role in marketing, referring physician relations and quality assurance/peer review programs as well as directly supervising ACR accreditation of all the equipment at all the sites where she has participated. Also during her tenure with the group, Dr. Sammarco was a senior partner and involved in all aspects of practice management.

Past experience includes being faculty and staff neuroradiologist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the University of Maryland Medical System & Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Michael Rothman

Neuroradiology

Dr. Rothman earned his medical degree and completed an internship in Internal Medicine from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was a resident in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital and at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, before completing his fellowship in Neuroradiology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Rothman served as a Neuroradiologist and Assistant Professor of Radiology, Neurosurgery, and Otolaryngology/ Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center for seven years, and was subsequently a consulting staff member in Neuroradiology at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. His practice has focused on Adult & Pediatric Neuroradiology and Sports Medicine/Orthopedic MRI. He has provided Teleradiology services in both solo and group practices since 2000.

Dr. Rothman’s research interests have spanned hundreds of professional papers, posters, presentations and lectures with an emphasis on emergency neuroimaging, sports trauma, cerebrovascular disease, multiple sclerosis and tumor development, among other topics. One of his favorite research presentations was the "Evaluation of the Spine in a 1,000-year old Peruvian Mummy with 3D Virtual Navigation." Dr. Rothman continues to lecture extensively and is accepted as an Expert Witness in multiple courts throughout the U.S.

Dr. Rothman is Board Certified by the ABR in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology and is a Senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology. He is heavily involved in the ACR & ASNR Guideline writing and revision process, and has served on many committees for both organizations.
